Well it's not all beer & skittles for wee Scarlee-babe at the moment. On 17th she was admitted to Mt Elizabeth hospital as a result of a nasty infection (thought to be Salmonella at the moment, though tests pending). She's on antibiotics and a drip to rehydrate her.By far the worst part for me - and probably Scarlett as well - was when they put her drip in. She looked up at me with these eyes that said, "how can you let them DO this to me?" and it's hard to say who cried more; Scarlett or me. Being a parent is pretty tough sometimes.
Thank goodness for medical insurance and for those people who had the foresight to put a DVD player in each room. We have had Baby Einstein DVDs going on repeat play, and it's the only thing that will calm her down sometimes! On the down side Miles and I may just lose our minds if we hear them one more time...
She's in for her second night now and it's Miles' turn to sleep on the fold out couch. Hope he gets SOME sleep at least. The sofa-bed squeaks like you wouldn't believe, waking Scarlett up each time. I gave up last night and slept in her cot. Not recommended. Could hardly walk in the morning as my legs had been all squished up! Miles has learned from my night and has wisely placed the mattress on the floor. Fingers crossed...
The good: her fever's come down and she is not dehydrated anymore. She has been much more active and enjoys a good game of peek-a-boo and has a giggle with her toys.
The bad: at this stage she is refusing to drink, any food she eats (very little) is going straight through her, and she's grizzly. She has also got some sores at the back of her throat from the infection which could be one of the reasons she's not keen on drinking. Poor wee possum.
She's likely to be in until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest, so we just keep hoping she'll improve. At least she's got some of her sparkle back.

Day one, modelling a charming hospital baby gown.

Day 2, reading a new book that Daddy bought her.
Day 2, trying to get her fever down with a cool pack. She was not amused.
