Bali Beach Break

Five days in Bali was just about the right amount of time so that we enjoyed ourselves, but also looked forward to heading home to our own tropical paradise in Singapore...

The kids were so excited by the planes, it was lovely to see!

First up, we stayed at Alam Warna, in an apartment which was gorgeous, with lots of room for the kids. Only thing is, we didn't realise it didn't have a pool we could use (needed to have a villa for that), so it was off to the beach for us!

Somewhere between NZ and Bali, Griff appeared to develop a morbid fear of the ocean, and refused to go near it. He was happy enough in the sand, thank goodness.

Conversely, it was all we could do to keep Scarlett this side of Java! Sadly her sunnies were sacrificed when a big wave surprised her.

Although I adore the view of the beach, I'll be the first to admit I have a love-hate relationship with sand. I love walking through it, but hate that it gets over everything and goes everywhere. To cheer me up, we went to La Lucciola in Seminyak - one of my favourite places for good food & amazing views.

This photo was taken on an iPhone:

We discovered that for a small fee, we could spend the day at the Hard Rock Hotel pool, so that's what we did. We had fun playing around with our new camera that can go underwater. Here are our water babies:

Next up on my list of great places to visit was Ku De Ta. The view is outstanding, and they have these great loungers you can use which look out onto the sea, or you can walk down to the beach and hose off the sand on your return. We like going there for breakfast, as the food is great (they have this great set menu which is unbeatable value), and afterwards we go down to the beach for a swim.

Playing with our toys on the loungers.

We changed hotels, to Serene Villas, as it was rated the number 1 place for families on Trip Advisor. Our first villa seemed tiny & run-down after Alam Warna, so we upgraded (again for a small fee!) to a 2brm villa there. It was much better suited to our needs, but I don't know that I'd say it was the best place for families... Had to taxi everywhere as too hot/too dangerous to walk anywhere with the kids, but close to Seminyak.

We spent so much time swimming these holidays, it's a wonder we didn't dissolve!

Snacks in the Bale.

Hugs for Daddy, post-swim.

Although we had this lovely villa, we realised that what this trip was missing was good friends/family! It would have been neat if there was another family staying with us, so the kids could play together, and so we could share the great places with others.

On the last day, we headed back to La Lucciola (if it ain't broke, don't fix it!).

Here's my Bali Beach Babe:

Playing hide-and-seek on the lawn in front of the restaurant.

Miles and I managed a couple of nights out (courtesy of a great babysitter there). Our last hurrah was to Wah Wah Burger & Wine bar in Seminyak. The food was all fantastic (below are 3 courses from our 8 course tasting menu), using wagyu beef etc. Only trouble was the menu had all these dodgy sexual innuendos which we thought lowered the tone of what was a really great restaurant.

Veggie burger (and frozen passionfruit martini)

3 Gourmet burgers: the works; porcini mushroom; & foie gras.

Dessert, appropriately titled 'Death by chocolate,' featuring some vodka in there amongst the rich chocolate goodness.
