NZ trip - Down South

After a rather curly ferry crossing with 4 metre swells, we arrive in the South Island. Poor Aunty Lauren has managed to get the dreaded bug, so the trip across Cook Strait was worse for her than it was for the rest of us.
We spent a night in Kaikoura, a coastal town known of course for its seafood (the translation of Kaikoura is literally Kai - food and Koura - crayfish) and also a place Miles used to live.

Well we made the most of the local seafood while we were there, that's for sure. This was a little stall on the side of the road on the way to the seal colony which sold freshly barbequed seafood. Miles and I had a whitebait fritter sandwich, a scallop sandwich, seafood chowder (flavoured with herbs growing wild on the side of the road) and the town's speciality - crayfish. Divine. Unfortunately by this time, Nathan and Dad had succumbed to the bug, so none of them enjoyed our feast.

We stopped at Timaru on our way to Palmerston to give Scarlett a good run around. She loved the swings.

Finally we made it to The Farm. My Great Aunt and Uncle have a wonderful farm in Palmerston. It was always a favourite place to visit when we were young and Scarlett thought it was Christmas too. Here she is on the farm bike belonging to my second cousin Ian.
